“I do not fear this scandalous word [eclectic],
through which a house expresses not the collector’s
necrophilia or snobbery for it’s own sake,
but a desire to evoke, at every hour,
art forms from all times, as comprehensible as those of today,
while being in control of them and declaring oneself
comfortably present in one’s own times; it is a mark
of wholeness and of civilization, the forerunner
almost of a world that is resolved and free from all polemics.
This perilous adventure of modern eclecticism should
not be confused with that of the late nineteenth century,
regrettably still alive.”

Carlo Mollino
